College Baseball:
Congrats to the Westmont College baseball program.
Last week, the Warriors earned the title of NAIA World Series champs.
And while Westmont is in Santa Barbara, there are a handful of players from San Gabriel Valley high school programs.
That list includes Northview lefty, Ryan Humphreys, Charter Oak right hander, Chris Ceballos, Claremont outfielder, Jonah Paez, Maranatha right hander, Aidan Holly
and Rancho Cucamonga infielder, Kaedon Mas.
After three consecutive wins in Lewiston (Idaho), the Warriors fell, 10-3, to Southeastern of Florida.
Westmont, however, would repay the Fire the next day, 6-4.
The victory eliminated Southeastern, and earned the Warriors a spot in Friday’s title game.
Westmont took a 5-1 lead through four innings.
To their credit, Lewis-Clark State fought back and caught the Warriors at 6-6 after scoring twice in the top of the seventh inning.
The Warriors scored once in the eighth to claim a 7-6 World Series clinching victory.
What had to make this even sweeter was the fact that Westmont earned a spot in the 2022 World Series, but came up short.
Aidan Holly had the biggest impact of SGV area players.
Holly was credited with the win in Westmont’s 13-9 victory over Taylor in game two.
He went 2 2/3 innings, allowing one run on one hit.
Holly didn’t issue a walk and registered four strikeouts.
In the championship game, Holly provided 1 2/3 innings of relief and surrendered one earned run on two hits.
Holly walked two and fanned three Lewis-Clark batters.
Chris Ceballos went one scoreless and struck out a pair of Southwestern batters last Wednesday.
