Football:
It’s difficult to overstate the history Tyler Perri, his staff and their players are making at Alta Loma.
The Lions football program hadn’t won a league title this century.
But in Perri’s fourth season at the helm, ALHS has just secured at least a share of their second consecutive Valle Vista League championship.
And make no mistake about it, Alta Loma will be a heavy favorite when they host Claremont in week 10 and have the opportunity to run a perfect slate in league.
On Friday, the Lions cruised to a 43-0 week-nine victory at Chino.
The weather may have interrupted their routine, but not the outcome.
Through week nine, Alta Loma improved their overall record to 8-1 and they’re 4-0 in VVL contests.
They’ve scored 164 points in VVL games, and they’ve surrendered just a touchdown to second-place San Dimas over that stretch.
In the last three games, Alta Loma has defeated Los Osos, Diamond Ranch and Chino by a combined margin of 129-0.
But back to Friday’s win at Chino.
Maximus tossed three TD passes and ran for another score.
He actually had a fourth TD through the air called back.
Fierro and Owen Lyons hooked up on TD strikes of 23 and 10 yards.
Santiago Vasquez reeled in a 23-yard TD pass as well.
Fierro’s 6-yard TD run gave ALHS a 12-0 lead.
The Lions led 33-0 at the break.
Izaih Brown had a 20-yard TD run to get Alta Loma on the board with 2:33 to play in the first quarter.
Semaj Stewart picked a pass and brought it back for a 45-yard pick six.
And Calton Riley’s 33-yard field goal in the waning moments of the third quarter capped Alta Loma’s scoring for the night.
Alex Huerta also picked a pass for the Lions defense.
Up next: The Lions host Claremont on Friday at 7.
The Wolfpack dropped a 35-10 showdown at San Dimas.
ALHS coach, Tyler Perri: “I am very proud of our coaching staff, players, and the support team for our efforts on Friday night. We had a great week of practice, and focus of our game plan, and what we needed to execute. I am spoiled to work along side my brother Justin Perri who continues to get our guys to play fast, and violent on defense. I liked our balance on offense and felt that our QB (Maximus Fierro, and offensive coordinator (Travis Hills) were on the same page all night. Our kids are excited to get home and play in front of our community, and celebrate our seniors.”
ALHS quarterback Maximus Fierro: “After our win at Chino, I think we’re looking really good. We had a great week of practice and we’re preparing like every week is the CIF finals. We had a weather delay, so it threw off our routine a little bit, but we focused on the things within our control. We played well on both sides of the ball and as a team. We came out super aggressive and we were able to execute the plays we had installed just this week. We’ve only gotten to play a full game a few times because of the scores, but that’s OK because we’re in this for each other. We trust our coaches and everyone has accepted their roles. I think we all kind of challenge ourselves to get better each week and we’re very much looking forward to the playoffs. But we’re certainly not looking past Claremont on Friday.”
