Baseball:

It seems like there is always high drama any time Glendora and Bonita meet up for a Palomares League baseball game.

And Wednesday was no different.

The Bearcats pushed a run across in the top of the seventh and then Bonita closer Seth Wrightstone got out of a runners on first and second with no outs, and a bases loaded and two out scenario in the seventh to secure a 4-3 victory for Bonita.

Jeff Isenhart went the first five innings for Glendora and allowed three runs (one earned) on eight hits.

He walked one and struck out four.

Donovann Jackson was stuck with the loss after giving up a seventh-inning run.

Luke Mistone walked twice, doubled and scored.

Ryan Kozma walked, singled twice and scored.

Jacob Flores walked and had an RBI single.

Jordan Sheridan singled twice for the Bearcats.

Logan Corthell (pictured above) walked, had an RBI single and scored twice.

Mistone (pictured above) went the first six innings for Bonita.

He allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits.

Mistone walked three and struck out 11 GHS batters.

Wrightstone (pictured above) earned the save despite walking the bases loaded.

He struck out one and needed 30 pitches to close out the victory.

Matt Gonzales walked, singled twice and scored a pair of runs.

Braydon Wooldridge walked, singled twice, scored and had an RBI.

And Carson Collett was walked three times, and the Glendora catcher had a two-RBI double.

Quotable:

Glendora coach, Dan Henley: “Bonita did a great job today capitalizing on a few defensive miscues. We battled our way back into the game with some clutch hits against one of the best arms in the area. They were the better team today and we will definitely need to grow from this opportunity.”

Bonita coach, Ryan Marcos: “Our guys battled every inning against a very good Glendora team in a game that could’ve went either way. Every moment matters in games like these so it’s always a plus when our starting pitcher throws strikes and gets ahead in the count, which is exactly what Luke Mistone did today. Luke minimized damage while our defense picked up the rest. Offensively one through nine of our hitters faced a good pitcher in Isenhart with a firm fastball and good offspeed, but I felt like our hitters stayed balanced and had a lot of good AB’s overall. Couple timely RBI’s and team AB’s brought one more run across than our opponent and we’ll take it.”

Bonita starting pitcher, Luke Mistone: “I think it was a great overall team win, good defense and timely hitting. We put together some tough at-bats early on. That’s a really good Glendora team and they kept battling back. I fell behind in some counts early on, but was able to get out of it. I had good command of the slider today which was huge and was able to locate the fastball in and out. I have to give big credit to the coaching staff and Kozma for putting together a great plan today.”
