Baseball:
It’s always a great thing to beat a program the caliber of La Mirada.
And to do so in walk-off fashion is even more special.
South Hills got a game-winning base hit from Jon “Rooster” Hernandez and the Huskies earned a 5-4 victory on Monday.
Sterling Patick went the first 6 2/3 innings, but he wasn’t in on the decision.
Patick allowed four runs on six hits, walked four and struck out four.
Matthew Lorenzano made one pitch to close out the top of the seventh inning, and he got the official win for the Huskies.
Andrew Pyle walked twice, singled, doubled, scored and drove in two runs.
Noah Rodriguez and Jeremiah Sotelo each singled and scored for La Mirada.
Benjamin Kim went six innings, allowed four runs on seven hits for the Matadores.
He didn’t walk anyone, fanned four, but he too was not in on the decision.
William Ruiz got the loss after allowing a walk, two hits and the game-winning run without getting an out.
As mentioned, Jon Hernandez had a walk-off single to score pinch-runner Andres Mitat in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Matthew Yanez went 2-for-3, with a pair of RBIs.
Marco Rosales walked, doubled and scored.
Drew Ramirez had an RBI base hit and Evan Burns singled and it was the pinch runner on his base hit that scored the game winner.
