College Baseball:

PCC’s 2022 season came to an end on Saturday.

But not as early as many might have thought.

After Palomar defeated the Lancers, 11-4, in game one on Friday, they needed just one win on Saturday to claim the best-of-three series with the Lancers.

And the Comets looked to have it wrapped up as they took a 7-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth on Saturday afternoon.

PCC, however, scored seven times in the sixth and once more in the seventh inning to stun Palomar, 9-7, and force a third and deciding game.

Benny Olguin allowed six runs on six hits over his 5 2/3 innings of work.

Olguin walked three and struck out a trio of Comets batters.

Coleman Mitchell earned the win after 3 1/3 innings of relief, and allowing just one run.

Mitchell scattered four hits, walked one and struck out two.

Devlin Lindeman walked twice, homered, drove in two runs and scored three times.

Quincy Scott walked, singled, doubled twice, scored and had three RBIs.

Logan Parker got the start for Palomar and allowed six runs on seven hits over his 5 1/3 innings.

He walked one and fanned three PCC batters.

Christian Wood got the loss after surrendering a pair of sixth-inning runs on three hits, which allowed the Lancers to take their first lead of the game.

Jakob Guardado singled twice, doubled, scored and drove in two.

Raider Tello singled, scored and had an RBI.

Andrew Scannell went 2-for-4, with a run and RBI.

Matt Rice singled twice and scored.

Max Blessinger singled, had an RBI and scored two runs.

Jake Trabbie singled and scored and Aryonis Harrison walked twice, scored and had an RBI.

In game two on Saturday, the Comets out-hit the Lancers, 20-6, in a 17-4 beatdown, to claim the series, two games to one.

Palomar got two runs on four hits off Nicco Day in his three innings.

Day didn’t issue a walk and struck out two.

Kyle Noel provided 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

The Comets got two runs on one hit against Rider Gardner and then five runs apiece versus Jakob Guardado and Casey Popham.

Guardado went two innings, walked one, fanned one and the big blow was a three-run shot off the bat of Tanner Lappin.

In one inning of action, Popham struggled, and Palomar would get five runs on four hits and two walks.

Lappin went 4-for-5, with four runs and four RBIs.

Carter Hain walked twice, had two doubles, scored and drove in a pair of runs.

Erik Larsen had two doubles of his own, scored and had four RBIs for the Comets.

Palomar had eight players with two or more hits in the third and deciding game.

Ethan Sally got the win after going six innings and allowing three runs on five hits.

Sally walked one and fanned five PCC batters.

Trent Lopez got the final nine outs and allowed one run.

Lopez didn’t issue a walk and struck out four.

Tello and Blessinger hit solo shots to cap a remarkable 2022 season by the former Arcadia and Maranatha standouts, respectively.

Tello also doubled.

Matt Rice singled and scored.

Collin Johnson had an RBI base hit.
