Charter Oak Scores Five Runs in Final Two Innings to Knock off First-Place Northview, 6-5, on Wednesday; Montoya Has Walk-Off Single

Wow.

Trailing 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning to first-place Northview, Charter Oak got two runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh to stun the Vikings, 6-5, in a Valle Vista League thriller.

Sal Batres was stuck with the loss.

Batres went 6 1/3 innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits.

He walked five and stuck out one.

Samuel Morales had a two-run single to tie the game at 5-5.

And David Montoya’s two-out single plated Anthony Vasquez with the game-winning run.

Evan Avitia went the first 4 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on nine hits.

Avitia walked two and fanned one NHS batter.

Diego Ortiz got the win, going 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief.

Ortiz surrendered one hit, didn’t issue a walk and struck out two.

Dean Curley singled twice, doubled and scored.

Diego Frey went 2-for-4, with an run and RBI.

Isaiah Cruz had an RBI double.

Matt Salgado singled, doubled and scored.

Moses Medrano singled, scored and had two RBIs.

Ken Rodriguez walked, singled and scored.

Northview out-hit COHS, 10-7, but the Chargers didn’t commit an error, while the Vikings had three.

Anthony Vasquez walked, singled twice, doubled and scored half of Charter Oak’s six runs.

Avitia walked and scored.

Morales finished with the single and two RBIs.

Dave Montoya went 2-for-4, with a pair of RBIs.

Trevor Dultz and Diego Ortiz walked and scored one run apiece.

Daniel Hirota walked and singled.

Up next: COHS will travel to NHS on Friday.

If the Chargers were to sweep the Vikings, San Dimas, Northview and Charter Oak would be in a three-way tie atop the Valle Vista League standings.
