PCC Wins Ninth Consecutive Game on Thursday; Lancers Defeat Rio Hondo College, 2-1, Thanks to Arms of Graves & Olguin

College Baseball:

Pasadena City College won its ninth consecutive game on Thursday.

The Lancers edged their visitors from Rio Hondo College, 2-1, in a South Coast Conference pitcher’s duel.

PCC held its share of the SCC’s top spot with Mt. SAC, as both programs claimed victories.

PCC’s Ryan Graves went four scoreless innings, allowing one hit, walked one and fanned three.

Benny Olguin got the win after his five innings and surrendering just an unearned run on three hits.

He walked three and struck out six.

Gabriel Rico singled and also scored Rio Hondo’s lone run of the game on a throwing error in the sixth inning.

That tied the game at 1-1.

Joseph Angulo and Diego Flores walked and singled.

Stephen Chavez accounted for the Roadrunners’ other base hit.

Blake Johnson went five innings and allowed just an unearned run on one hit.

Johnson walked two and struck out a pair of PCC batters.

Joseph Russo allowed an unearned run over his two innings and got the loss.

Russo surrendered four hits, didn’t issue a walk and fanned two.

Aryonis Harrison singled and his sac fly in the second inning scored Jake Trabbie, and gave the Lancers a 1-0 lead.

Jakob Guardado walked, singled twice and scored the eventual game-winning run in the seventh inning on a throwing error.

Max Blessinger and Raider Tello singled once each for the Lancers.

Up next: PCC heads to Rio Hondo on Saturday afternoon, and with the hopes of completing its second consecutive SCC sweep.
