Girls Basketball:
The sad news is that La Salle had its lowest scoring output of the season, and fell in the CIF State Division 3 championship game.
The great news is: the Camino Real League and CIF-SS Division 3AA champions will return all five starters from this 2021-22 record-breaking season.
As far as Friday goes, Oakland Tech defeated La Salle, 39-33, at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.
The Bulldogs shot just 28-percent from the field, as compared to 33-percent for the Lancers, but Oakland Tech had a 12-0 advantage in points from behind the 3-point arc, and out-rebounded La Salle, 39-31.
La Salle took a three-point lead into the break, but Oakland Tech outscored the Lancers, 23-14, in the second half.
Audrey Chen led the Lancers with 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Ryan Riddle contributed 10 points, eight rebounds and two assists.
Erin Sellers led Oakland Tech with 11 points, three boards and two steals.
Sophia Askew chipped in with eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds in Friday’s win.
Kaden Cortes’ six points and Reese Wong’s four points accounted for the rest of the La Salle offense.
While the Lady Lancers 400-mile ride home will be less fun than had they won, but La Salle should celebrate its 31 wins, another league championship and the first CIF-SS title in program history.
A big congrats to Scott Wiard, his staff and that gutsy and gritty group of girls.
