Girls Soccer:
It wasn’t the quick start Ayala may have wanted in Wednesday’s season opener.
But It was quite the finish.
The Bulldogs used a 4-0 second-half surge to pick up victory No. 1 of the 2021 season.
Walnut got a first-half goal to take a 1-0 lead at home, but Grayton Normand shut the Mustangs out the rest of the way.
Aliza Corona was the offensive star with two goals for the Bulldogs.
Marianna Kera and Ece Aliyazicioglu contributed a goal apiece in the win.
Walnut goalie Lillian Dukes had a game-high nine saves for the Mustangs.
Normand blocked five shots for Ayala.
Game notes from Ayala coach, Ryan Casey: “I am a first-year coach with the program, so the first half was a little challenging for the players learning a new system, coaching style and not playing together before. We made some adjustments at the half and scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half, and four total. We played together as a team and worked very hard for each other, and the quality showed as the game went on.”
