A pair of San Gabriel Valley area lightweights won titles at the two-day CIF-SS Northern Division Individuals at Paloma Valley High School.
Ayala’s Brenda Martinez defeated top-seeded Saryna Garcia of Etiwanda, 6-4, in the title match.
The Bulldogs 106-pounder had a first-round bye and then used two pins and a major decision to get to the finals.
In just her first year as a wrestler, Samantha Sachs could not have had a better individual performance.
The Glendora freshman won all five of her matches via pinfall, including a 57-second stick of top-seeded Mia Ramirez from Glenn.
Sachs became the Tartans first female to win a CIF-SS individual championship in school history.
Four of Sachs’ five pins came in the first period.
Upland’s Mariah Arriola finished second at 160 pounds.
And Los Osos’ Behnaz Agahzadeh was the runner up in the heavyweight division.
