Boys Basketball:
Just like last season, Glendora had a 12-point lead over Bonita with less than three minutes to play.
In 2023-24, the Bearcats rallied, stunned the Tartans in overtime, and earned a Palomares League championship.
This time around, though, GHS weathered a Bonita run, and they claimed a 72-54 victory and an outright Palomares League championship.
It was also the Tartans’ 22nd-consecutive win, which is a program best since 1992.
To give Bonita credit they deserve, they rallied from 19 back to get as close as 53-46 of the Tartans.
Glendora used a 19-8 run in the fourth quarter to pull away.
Colton Gray, the league’s best player, scored a game-high 26 points to go with 11 rebounds and three assists.
Gray went 12-of-14 from the field.
Hunter Smith led Bonita with 16 points, and James Kim had 15 in the loss.
Smith hit a pair of 3’s and went 6-of-8 from the free-throw line.
Kim had a game-high three 3-pointers.
Smith and Kim combined for 17 of the Bearcats’ 22 third-quarter points when they went on a 21-13 run.
Tanner Grable, one of GHS’ unsung heroes in this record season finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and an assist.
Max Hilgenfeldt chipped in with 10 points, three rebounds and three assists.
CJ Murray keeps getting better during his rookie season, and he contributed nine points and two rebounds.
Sebastian Demano provided eight points and five assists.
Vince Montalbo added six points, two boards and an assist.
Drew Sanchez scored eight points for the Bearcats.
Carson Zylstra hit a pair of 3’s, and he finished with six points.
Jalen Pineda scored five points in the loss.
