Baseball:
Arcadia earned a spot in Friday’s quarterfinal round of the CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs thanks to Tuesday’s 9-1 victory at Yorba Linda High School.
Fernando Palencia walked in a run in the bottom of the first inning, and then the Apaches star senior shut YLHS down the rest of the way.
Palencia went the distance, allowing one run on seven hits.
He issued two walks and fanned 10 to improve his personal record to 10-3.
It took Palencia 109 pitches to finish what he started, and 71 were strikes.
Logan Roehl singled and scored.
Ryan Zavala tripled and Caden Maloof doubled.
Nate Baughman walked with the bases loaded.
Alec Waddell got the loss after allowing three runs on two hits over 2 1/3 innings.
Waddell issued a pair of walks and struck out one AHS batter.
Arcadia scored five runs in the top of the third inning and never looked back.
Avery Truesdale walked, hit a three-run HR and scored three runs.
Damian Catano’s two-run single in the top of the third gave the Apaches their first lead at 2-1.
Maverick Silva went 3-for-4, including a double.
Jerry Carlos walked and had a two-run double.
Roman Cicero drove in a pair of runs on a seventh-inning double.
Keyonn Chatman was hit by pitch, singled and scored.
Leo Peniche drew a pair of walks and scored.
Palencia walked and scored.
Up next: The Apaches will host top-seeded Westlake on Friday.
The Warriors (26-4) defeated West Torrance, 6-3, on Tuesday.
