Baseball:
Etiwanda will not win their third consecutive Baseline League title in 2024, but they will go a long way in determining the eventual champion.
Los Osos entered Saturday’s third and final game with the Eagles having won the first two by a combined margin of 28-3.
And the Grizzlies led 2-0 as the game entered the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Eagles, however, rallied for three sixth-inning runs, and they secured a 3-2 victory.
With the loss and Damien’s 1-0 victory over Rancho Cucamonga, Los Osos trails the Spartans by one-half game with three to play.
Christian Eaton went the distance, allowing two unearned runs on three hits.
Eaton issued three walks and he struck out four LOHS batters.
Justin Yeutter singled and his sac fly in the top of the fifth gave Osos a 1-0 lead.
Joshua Chairez followed that with a sac fly of his own and the Grizzlies had a 2-0 advantage.
Austin Ziello singled and scored.
Roberto Topete had the other LOHS base hit.
Aidan Cube got the loss after going five innings and allowing three runs on five hits.
Cube walked one and struck out one EHS batter.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Jaeden Toki’s two-run double got Etiwanda even at 2-2.
Three batters later, Luke Mendoza had an RBI sac fly for what turned out to be the game winner.
Toki had a pair of doubles and the two RBIs.
Ryan Severns singled and scored the third run on Saturday.
Chris Montes de Oca walked and scored.
Angel Mejia singled twice and scored.
Etiwanda finishes out the 2024 regular season with a three-game series against first-place Damien.
And the Grizzlies have a trio of games with third-place Chino Hills.
