Upland Rallies For Single Runs in Sixth, Seventh & Eighth Innings to Edge Chino Hills, 3-2, in Baseline League Thriller

Baseball:

If you saw the Baseline League standings, you might write off Upland as a bottom tier program in 2024.

But that would be both inaccurate and unfair.

In fact, the Highlanders are just nine runs from being 8-3 instead of 3-8 in league games.

And they’re a very young team.

After falling 2-1 at Chino Hills on Monday, Upland rallied to defeat the Huskies, 3-2, in eight innings.

The Highlanders scored single runs in the bottom of the six, seventh and eighth innings.

Sophomore Andrew Baldomino went 6 1/3 for Chino Hills and he allowed two runs on six hits.

Baldomino issued just one walk and struck out six.

Perry Johnson got the loss after surrendering an unearned run on one hit and two walks in 2/3 of an inning.

Martin Hernandez had two doubles, including one in the seventh inning to pull the Highlanders even at 2-2.

Jacob Moreno walked, and in the seventh, his RBI single got Upland on the board.

In the bottom of the eighth, Brody Morgan had a bunt single, and Carson Kinnick scored the winning run on a throwing error.

Kinnick went 2-for-4 and scored the one run.

Dominic Nava and Griffin Cunningham singled and scored one run apiece.

Freshman Elliot Cresap went seven innings and allowed just a pair of unearned runs on three hits.

Cresap issued four walks and struck out seven CHHS batters.

Issac Carlos got the win after going a scoreless top of the eighth inning.

Carlos allowed a single and struck out one batter.

Baldomino singled, drove in a run on a sac fly and scored.

Frankie Brazil singled and scored.

Jacob Jimenez tripled and Jackson Gray singled.
