Boys Tennis:

Thanks to Maranatha tennis for this report:

With their hopes for qualifying for the playoffs riding on this match, Maranatha knew what they had to do.

It wasn’t impossible.

The plan on how to get it done was in place; but to do it, they had to be nearly perfect against a team that is in the hunt for a league championship.

There couldn’t really be any “hiccups” from anyone; a tough ask from a team dominated by underclassmen.

The effort was there, but the experience, maturity, and mental toughness required to defeat a senior-laden team wasn’t.

Like all athletes and teams, the Minutemen too will have to pay their dues.

After 15 consecutive trips to the playoffs – with two finals appearances, two semifinals appearances, two quarterfinals appearances, and 10 league championships in the last 12 years – the young Minutemen will once again be a squad to be reckoned with in the years to come.

No. 1 Matt Yip/Reggie Park swept their sets today, 6-2, 6-0, 6-1, while No. 2 Hayden Geeting/Nate Schumann chipped in with two wins, 6-0, 6-1.

No. 3 Malachi Dharmaratne/Yohan Park, winners of three sets yesterday against Duarte, could only muster up one win today, 6-1.

Of note, Elbert Sun and Willem Klop played their best tennis of the season today and played tough.

In their final match of the season, the Minutemen host California Academy of Math & Sciences.

They will honor the career of their lone senior, Malachi Dharmaratne.
