Baseball:
Something had to give.
Either Northview or Charter Oak was going to claim its first Valle Vista League victory of the 2024 season.
And Zack Escalera made sure it was the Chargers.
Escalera tossed a three-hit shutout, as COHS defeated visiting NHS, 3-0, on Wednesday.
Escalera walked one and struck out 10 Northview batters.
He needed 92 pitches to finish what he started, and he fanned eight of the 12 Vikings that had at least one official at-bat.
Seth Robles, Joey Ramos and Adrian Rodriguez had one single apiece to account for the Northview offense.
AJ Flores went five innings, and he allowed three runs on five hits.
Flores issued one walk and struck out four COHS batters.
Vincent Carrillo went 2-for-3 and scored one run.
Aedyn Martinez walked and scored.
Martin Luna had an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to give COHS a 2-0 lead.
Aaden Escarcega doubled and scored.
Up next: The Chargers travel to Northview on Friday at 3:30.
