Boys Soccer:

Maranatha has played lights out soccer for most of the second half of the season.

They secured an outright Olympic League championship on the last day of the regular season with a 2-1 victory over Whittier Christian.

And that hot streak has carried over into the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs.

On Wednesday, the Minutemen edged Windward, 1-0, with a late goal by Miles Romero.

Two days later, MHS took a 70-mile drive to Perris, and they crushed the California Military Institute, 6-0, to earn a spot in next week’s quarterfinal round.

Luca Youssefian completed the hat trick with two goals in the first half, and one more in the second.

Sawyer Throop, who is pictured above, scored a pair of second-half goals.

Caleb Freeman scored once and assisted on another.

George Peterson didn’t score, but he had two assists.

Lorenzo Rodriguez totaled three saves in goal for the Minutemen.

Up next: MHS will host Kaiser on Tuesday night at 5.

The Cats (13-5-4) edged Beverly Hills, 2-1, in their second-round contest.
