Boys Basketball:

Glendora had a chance to avenge a December 22nd loss in which they played their worst game of the 2023-24 season.

Originally, it was scheduled for Ayala, but the Bulldogs gym lacked padding behind one of the baskets, so the game got moved that day to GHS.

To their credit, AHS came into the Glendora gym and never trailed in a 12-point victory.

Fast forward four weeks, and they met up at Walnut High, because the Ayala wrestling program is hosting a two-day tournament.

Just like the first game, AHS got out to an early (8-2) lead.

This time around, however, Glendora took a lead with three minutes remaining in the first quarter and they never trailed again.

GHS would hold on for a 66-58 victory over a tough and feisty Ayala program.

With four games to play (in the Palomares League), Glendora and Bonita stand atop the league standings at 5-1, and they meet in the regular season finale on Jan. 31 in La Verne.

Colton Gray had a big night with 16 points, 13 rebounds and two assists.

Ayala’s Jeremy Serrano (18) and Josiah Yang (16) combined for 34 points and seven 3-pointers.

Yang had four 3’s, and Serrano made three from beyond the arc.

Sebastian Demano totaled 15 points and two assists, and Chris Lee chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds.

GHS took a 32-25 lead into the break, and AHS would play them as close to even as possible in the second half.

Max Hilgenfeldt, one of the league’s most under-appreciated players, contributed eight points in Friday’s win.
