Baseball:
La Salle entered Saturday’s contest with El Segundo having lost three in a row.
The Lancers fell, 4-1, to Norwalk last Saturday, and then dropped Tuesday and Friday Del Rey League games to Serra (5-0 & 11-1).
And apparently Val Gomez wanted to stop the skid himself.
Gomez went 6 1/3 scoreless innings in La Salle’s 9-0 victory over the Eagles.
Gomez allowed three hits, walked three and struck out six.
Jacob Escamilla got the final two outs, both of which were strikeouts.
Colby Sutherland was saddled with the loss.
Sutherland went 4 1/3 innings and allowed nine runs (eight earned) on nine hits.
He walked five and struck out one La Salle batter.
David Mysza went 4-for-4, including two singles that plated one run each, and a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Will Clougherty walked, singled twice, scored and had two RBIs.
Hunter Vigil and Travis Ochoa singled and scored one run each.
Peter Callihan walked, singled twice, had an RBI and scored three runs.
Chris Cardenas and Drew Ward walked and scored one run apiece.
Up next: La Salle travels to Palos Verdes on Monday at 3.
