Baseball:
Justin Santiago has quietly but impressively cemented himself as one of the SGV’s most elite pitchers.
In his latest gem on Wednesday, the Bonita senior threw a 2-hit shutout in Bonita’s 4-0 victory over La Mirada.
It was a battle of programs ranked 16th (LMHS) and 24th (BHS) in California by MaxPreps.
Santiago allowed singles to Aidan Haller and Noah Rodriguez, but the rest of the Matadores offense went a combined 0-for-16.
He didn’t issue a walk and struck out eight.
Santiago needed just 76 pitches to, as Van Halen would say, ‘finish what ya started,’ and 51 of the 76 were strikes.
He’s 4-0 with a 0.20 ERA, and has walked 4, while striking out 41 opposing batters.
Bonita got two runs off Cameron Trevino and one each against Jacob Oropeza and Jeremiah Sotelo.
The La Mirada trio combined to walk five and strike out six Bearcats’ batters.
BHS out-hit LMHS, 6-2, in Wednesday’s first-round game of the Perfect Game West Coast High School Showdown.
Bryan Bradshaw was the offensive star of the game.
Bradshaw went 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
His two-run triple in the second inning scored Daniel Munoz and Colton Perez to give BHS a 2-0 lead.
Tyler Holley singled and scored.
Munoz scored a pair of runs for the Bearcats.
Up next: BHS face Kofa today at 4.
The Kings are 3-3-1 and are from Yuma, Arizona.
