Pitt County Ends La Verne’s Historic Season, 6-1, at Little League World Series; LVLL Goes 2-2 in North Carolina

Softball:

The magical and historic run of the La Verne Little League softball program came to an end on Friday.

Pitt County defeated LVLL, 6-1, in Greenville, North Carolina.

La Verne opened the LLWS on Tuesday by defeating Pitt County, the host team, 9-2.

North Carolina scored four runs in the top of the third inning and never trailed.

Ava Coward got the win, going all six innings and allowing one run on five hits.

Coward issued one walk and struck out four.

Sofia Ayaberrano singled and scored.

Laney Sweeney singled and doubled.

Ava Fisher had an RBI sac fly in the bottom of the fourth to account for La Verne’s run.

Zoey Colburn and Laila Washington singled once apiece for LVLL.

Katie Coldiron got the loss, but only two of the six runs she was charged with were earned.

Coldiron surrendered eight hits, walked one and fanned six North Carolina batters.

Michelle Jenkins singled, doubled, scored twice and had an RBI.

Logan Smith doubled and scored.

Harper Bradley and Ava Coward singled and scored one run each.

Sarah Booth singled, scored and had an RBI.

Kamdyn Haislip had an RBI base hit.

On behalf of everyone in the San Gabriel Valley, congratulations to the girls from La Verne for making history, and thank you for representing us so well, on and off the field.

I spoke to Sofia Ayabarreno about her role and experience with the LVLL softball program. I apologize to Sofia for the quality. We were trying to do an interview in which I asked questions from California. Her answers are clear, which is all that matters.
