Baseball:

It doesn’t matter what sport it is, every coach dreams of having his or her program peaking for the playoffs.

And that’s exactly what’s happening with the Etiwanda High School baseball program.

When the Eagles make that 75-mile drive to Palos Verdes for the semifinal round of the CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs, Etiwanda will enter Tuesday’s showdown with its fair share of momentum and confidence.

EHS has won six consecutive games and 11 of their last 12, and they’ve outscored their three postseason opponents by a combined margin of 30-3.

Etiwanda pitching (Dylan Goff, Brady Ebel & Yahir Ramirez) has allowed just three earned runs in victories over Temecula Valley, Warren and Pacifica.

Brady Ebel is likely to have the ball in his hand on Tuesday.

The Eagles freshman is 6-0 with a 0.38 ERA.

He’s walked eight, struck out 29 and he’s finished what he started three times, including last Tuesday’s 10-1 victory at Warren.

Ebel had quite the coming out party as a high school pitcher, throwing a no-hitter and striking out seven in his first career start back on March 23rd.

And he hasn’t skipped a beat ever since.

Ebel will be facing a Palos Verdes lineup that has a .266 team batting average, and the Sea Kings offense averages just under four runs a game.

Alex Forman is batting .393, with 33 hits, 20 runs, 13 RBIs and six doubles.

Kendall Ward (.371, 13 hits, seven runs, seven RBIs and three doubles), Garren Rizzo (.259, 21 hits, 10 runs & 14 RBIs), Noah Wahl (.294, 25 hits, nine runs, 16 RBIs, six doubles & three home runs), Ryan Roche (.269, 14 hits, six runs, 10 RBIs, three doubles & two home runs) and Grant Govel (.292, 19 hits, nine runs, 14 RBIs, four doubles & one home run) make up the core of the Sea Kings offense.

The PV pitching staff is led by Alex Forman, who is 6-2, with a 2.50 ERA.

Forman has walked 11 and struck out 47.

Jack O’Connor (4-3, 3.50 ERA, eight walks, 38 strikeouts), Garren Rizzo (3-0, 0.32, two walks & 34 strikeouts) and Grant Govel (2-1, 2.51, 14 walks & 30 strikeouts) have all played their part in a highly-successful season for PVHS.

Etiwanda boasts a .323 team batting average and their 292 hits are 82 more than Palos Verdes.

Austen Roellig is having a monster junior season.

Roellig is batting .440, with 33 hits, 32 runs, 16 RBIs, 10 doubles, a triple and two home runs.

Armando Briseno has a team-high 38 hits, while batting at a .369 clip.

Briseno has 30 runs, 19 RBIs, four doubles, four triples and three home runs.

Tyler Shigenaka (.397, 22 runs, 18 RBIs, eight doubles, one triple & one HR), Freddie Capacete (.328, 19 hits, seven runs, 13 RBIs, five doubles & one triple), Tyler McEvoy (.325, 26 hits, 19 runs, 23 RBIs, nine doubles, three triples & two home runs), Brady Ebel (.284, 25 hits, 20 runs, 29 RBIs, three doubles, one triple & four home runs), Kaedon Mas (.288, 17 hits, 18 runs, 15 RBIs, one double, one triple & one HR), Mike Harrison (.321, 18 hits, 17 runs, 20 RBIs, six doubles & three home runs), Abraham Zapata (.296, 16 hits, six runs, 12 RBIs, four doubles & one triple) and Parker Sobiesiak (.316, 18 hits, 18 runs, 11 RBIs & two doubles) have all provided massive contributions for the Eagles.
