Mt. SAC Forces Third Game w/10-8 Victory on Saturday, But Cypress Exploded for 12 Runs Late in Game 3 to Defeat Mounties, 15-9

In spite of dropping game one in a best-of-three playoff series with visiting Cypress on Friday, things were looking good on Saturday afternoon for Mt. SAC.

The Mounties had just clipped the Chargers, 10-8, which forced a third and deciding game.

And they jumped out to a 5-1 lead as game three was heading into the top of the third inning.

The Chargers, however, scored 12 runs in the final three innings to cruise to a 15-9 victory to clinch the series.

Five Mt. SAC pitchers combined to keep the season alive in game two (Saturday’s first game).

Jeff Isenhart went 3 2/3 innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits.

Isenhart walked one, struck out one and surrendered a pair of home runs.

Trent Merrill went 1 1/3 innings and allowed one run on three hits.

Damian Torres was credited with the win after 1 1/3 innings, and surrendering three runs (two earned) on one hit.

After Hunter Holmes struck out a pair of batters, Cristian Enriquez got the save, thanks to two scoreless innings of relief.

Enriquez allowed just one hit, didn’t issue a walk and struck out one Cypress batter.

Dean Toigo singled three times, scored and had three RBIs.

Peter Werth and Isaac Rodriguez both homered and had two RBIs apiece.

Mt. SAC got to Nick Bautista for six runs (four earned) on seven hits and six walks in four innings.

Sebastian Diaz got the loss, allowing four runs on six hits and four walks in 3 2/3 innings.

Nin Burns singled twice, scored and had an RBI.

CJ Ontiveros went 2-for-4, with a walk, run and two RBIs.

Damien Delgadillo walked twice, had two singles, a run and one RBI.

Blake Borgogno singled, scored and drove in a pair of runs.

Brent Cota walked, singled and scored twice.

Elijah Pelayo walked, tripled, scored and drove in two.

Art Ruiz walked twice, singled two times and scored.

Enriquez was walked three times and scored.

Will Bermudez singled and scored.

In game two, the Chargers scored at least one run off six of the eight Mt. SAC pitchers who saw action.

Brian Park was touched up for five runs (four earned) on six hits in his six innings.

Enriquez got the loss, allowing three runs on two hits and a walk in 2/3 of an inning.

Hunter Holmes surrendered three runs on two hits and a walk in 1/3 of an inning, and Cypress scored twice on two hits in Alec Beck’s 2/3 of an inning off Alec Beck.

The Mounties used seven pitchers to get the final nine outs.

Dean Toigo singled twice, homered and had a game-high five RBIs.

It was Toigo’s grand slam in the eighth inning that gave the Chargers a 12-8 lead.

Luke Honikel singled twice, doubled, scored three runs and had two RBIs.

Brenden Harris went 2-for-5, with a walk, run and four RBIs.

Noah Karliner singled twice, doubled, drove in two and scored three times.

Weston Millis allowed five runs (four earned) on four hits and a walk in the first 1 1/3 innings.

Carson Frazier went 4 2/3 innings and surrendered just one run on one hit.

Frazier walked one and struck out six MSAC batters.

Logan Groff was credited with the win after going the final three innings and allowing three runs on four hits and a walk.

Brent Cota hit a three-run HR in the second inning to give the Mounties a 5-1 lead.

Cota also had an RBI single in the eighth.

Cristian Enriquez had three singles and an RBI.

Will Bermudez scored twice and had an RBI.

Nin Burns walked and had one RBI.

Damien Delgadillo went 2-for-4, with an RBI.

Art Ruiz doubled and scored.

CJ Ontiveros walked, scored twice and had one RBI.

Elijah Pelayo singled and scored.

Blake Borgogno walked and scored.

Mt. Sac had its most wins since 2018.
