Baseball:

It was put up or shut up time for the Northview baseball program on Friday.

And the Vikings definitely showed up and put up five runs in a 5-2 victory over visiting Charter Oak to win the outright Valle Vista League championship.

After Charter Oak’s 6-5, walk-off victory over visiting Northview on Wednesday, the Chargers were a Friday win from forcing a three-way share of the VVL title with both San Dimas and Northview.

NHS got a first-inning run when Dean Curley led off with a single, and the Vikings junior went to third on Ivan Barragan’s base hit.

Diego Frey’s sac fly scored Curley and Northview led 1-0.

COHS would take their first lead in the top of the fifth, as Anthony Vasquez singled home Nathan Arevalos.

And a Samuel Morales RBI single would give the Chargers a 2-1 advantage.

Northview, however, would get two back in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by a Curley double and an RBI base hit by Frey.

The Vikings got an insurance run in the sixth, as Matt Salgado singled home Evan Burns.

Anthony Vasquez got the loss, allowing three runs on eight hits over his five innings of work.

Vasquez walked two and struck out four.

NHS got two runs off Diego Ortiz in the sixth inning.

Ortiz allowed three hits and walked one.

Dean Curley walked, singled, doubled, scored twice and had an RBI.

Ivan Barragan had a pair of singles and an RBI.

Diego Frey singled and drove in a pair of runs.

Matt Salgado singled, scored and had an RBI, and Evan Burns walked, singled and scored.

Moses Medrano singled twice in Friday’s win.

Andrew Granados went six innings for Northview to earn the win.

Granados surrendered two runs on five hits, walked one and fanned a pair of COHS batters.

Curley earned the save with a scoreless seventh.

Curley allowed one hit and got two of his three outs via strikeout.

Vasquez singled, scored and had an RBI.

Morales had the RBI base hit.

And Arevalos would walk and score.
