Mt. SAC Wins Share of SCC Championship After Friday’s 11-4 Victory at El Camino; Mounties Pounded Out 19 Hits

After a highly competitive and dramatic last month of the 2022 season, Mt. SAC and Long Beach City College will share the South Coast Conference title.

On Friday, in the regular season’s final day, the Mounties picked up an 11-4 victory at El Camino, and LBCC swept lowly Compton, 10-4.

MSAC and LBCC finished with identical 19-5 records in conference play, but the Mounties will head into the playoffs as the No. 1 seed, because they won two of their three games against the Vikings.

The Mounties scored the game’s first eight runs and never really got challenged.

MSAC out-hit El Camino, 18-6

Elijah Tolsma got the loss, allowing eight runs on 11 hits in four innings of work.

Tolsma didn’t issue a walk and fanned three MSAC batters.

Blake Borgogno hit a two-run HR in the top of the second to give MSAC an early 2-0 lead.

Borgogno also had a pair of singles, scored and drove in three runs.

Nin Burns collected two singles, two doubles, a pair of runs and two RBIS.

Cristian Enriquez had two singles, a triple, scored once and drove in a pair of runs.

Will Bermudez singled, tripled, scored and had one RBI.

Elijah Pelayo singled and scored twice, and Brent Cota singled and scored.

CJ Ontiveros had two singles and a two-run HR.

Alex Reynozo singled, doubled and scored twice.

Brian Park went 3 2/3 innings for Mt. SAC and allowed two runs on two hits.

Park walked four and struck out three batters.

Alec Beck provided two innings of relief, allowing two runs on four hits.

Trent Merrill (1 1/3) and Damian Torres (2) combined for 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to close out the game and the conference championship.

Merrill and Torres both struck out on El Camino batter apiece.

Theo Forshey had a pair of singles, scored and drove in two runs for El Camino.

Ben Griffin hit a solo home run.

And Juan Carlos Camarena walked and had two doubles.
