Baseball:

Etiwanda won its fifth Baseline League title since 2015.

The Eagles hammered their host from Upland, 16-1, on Monday.

And with two games to go, and Damien’s 8-1 victory over second-place Rancho Cucamonga, Etiwanda now enjoys a two-game lead over both the Cougars and Spartans.

On top of that, the Eagles claimed two-game-to-one Baseline League series victories over both RCHS and DHS, which earned them tiebreaker advantages over their two closest competitors.

Brady Ebel went four scoreless innings to pick up the win.

He allowed just two hits, walked one and struck out three Upland batters to improve his personal record to 5-0.

Garrett Mnich provided two innings of relief and allowed one run on one hit.

And Nico Neri went a scoreless seventh, including a pair of strikeouts to close it out.

Jeremy Giesegh hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning for the Highlanders.

Martin Hernandez singled twice to account for the other two Upland base hits.

Joe O’Regan got roughed up for 10 runs (nine earned) on nine hits.

O’Regan went three innings, walked four and fanned four.

Freddie Capacete doubled twice, scored two runs and had an RBI.

Austen Roellig walked twice, doubled, drove in a run and scored twice.

Armando Briseno went 2-for-4, with an RBI and run scored.

Tyler McEvoy walked twice, singled, doubled, scored twice and drove in two runs.

Tyler Shigenaka singled, drove in two and scored a pair of runs.

Kaedon Mas walked twice, singled, scored three times and had an RBI.

Chris Montes De Oca walked, singled, drove in two runs and scored.

Mason Schultz had an RBI single and Parker Sobiesiak, Garrett Mnich and Christian Mosqueda singled and scored one run each.

Up next: Upland will head over to Etiwanda on Wednesday for the second of three games this week with the Eagles.

Congratulations to Coach Don Furnald, his staff and players for winning one of the SGV area’s deepest leagues.
