College Baseball:
After sweeping Compton this past week, Mt. SAC enters the final three games of the regular season with a one-game lead over LBCC and El Camino atop the SCC Standings.
The Mounties thumped the Tartars by a combined margin of 51-10.
They will face off with El Camino on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
MSAC has won nine consecutive games and 20 of their last 21.
The Warriors have won 12 straight in SCC play, which includes three-game sweeps of LA Harbor ELAC, Compton and PCC.
El Camino is coming off a three-game sweep of PCC, which was highlighted by Thursday’s 14-13 stunner.
Trailing by nine runs in the top of the ninth inning at Brookside Park, they scored 10 times to shock everyone in attendance, especially the players and coaches in both dugouts.
The Lancers entered the series in a two-way, first-place tie with Mt. SAC.
Heading into the El Camino series, PCC was the only SCC team to have won each conference series they had played.
The Lancers claimed two game to one series wins over Mt. SAC, ELAC, LBCC & LA Harbor.
And they were coming off consecutive three-game sweeps of Rio Hondo and Compton, respectively.
PCC is still expected to make the playoffs, and they hope to get well this week and head into the postseason with some momentum.
The Lancers face off with seventh-place Cerritos in a three-game series.
Obviously, Mt. SAC finds itself in the most enviable of scenarios, as they stand alone in first place.
But considering that LBCC will almost certainly sweep lowly Compton, who has lost 13 of their last 14 games, there will be very little room for error for the Mounties.
In the most recent RPI rankings, Mt. SAC, El Camino, LBCC and PCC are ranked 6-9 in the state, respectively.
