Baseball:

To say that Ayala has had Glendora’s number of late would be quite an understatement.

After Tuesday’s 8-4 victory over the visiting Tartans, the Bulldogs extended their head-to-head win streak to 10 games.

The last time GHS defeated AHS dates all the way back to March 16th of 2018.

But back to Tuesday’s game.

Andres Pasillas earned the win after going six innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits.

Pasillas walked two and fanned three GHS batters.

Randy Limon went a scoreless seventh in relief to secure the win.

Joseph Gilkeson singled and hit a two-run HR in the first inning to give GHS an early 2-0 lead.

Braydon Wooldridge singled and scored, and Carson Mounce walked and scored.

Matt Moreno walked with the bases loaded and Troy Estrada had an RBI ground out.

Evan Ellis got the loss, allowing five runs on four hits.

Ellis went the first two innings, walked four and struck out four Bulldogs’ batters.

Ayala would get three more runs off JJ Nolan on four hits and three walks.

Ethan Nunez walked twice, singled and hit a grand slam.

Nunez scored twice and finished with four RBIs.

Ty Borgogno walked, singled, doubled and scored a pair of runs.

Anthony Hernandez walked, singled and crossed the plate two times.

Marcus Galvan walked, doubled, scored and had one RBI.

Andrew Torres doubled and drove in a pair of runs.

Anthony Dominguez walked, singled and scored.

With three league games to play, Ayala trails first-place Bonita by one game.

The Bulldogs would need to finish the season one-game ahead of the Bearcats to claim the Palomares League championship, because Bonita defeated Ayala in each of their three games in 2022.

Glendora is now 0-5 versus Bonita and Ayala, and they hope to hold the league’s number three spot in the CIF-SS playoffs.

The Tartans hold a two-game lead over fourth-place Alta Loma.
