College Baseball:
With just two weeks to go, the South Coast Conference appears to be heading for a dramatic end to the 2022 regular season.
PCC and Mt. SAC sit atop the conference standings with identical 14-4 records.
But there are two other programs on their heels.
Long Beach and El Camino are just one-game back of the Lancers and Mounties.
Starting today, El Camino and PCC meet up three times this week, while Mt. SAC faces lowly Compton.
ELAC played itself out of a title run, but the Huskies have the opportunity to derail LBCC’s hopes of an SCC championship this week.
PCC has won 11 of their last 12 games, imcluding seven consecutive in SCC play.
The Lancers haven’t lost a conference game since March 17th.
El Camino is coming off nine consecutive conference wins over LA Harbor, ELAC and Compton.
Mt. SAC has been on fire of late.
The Mounties have won six straight and 17 of their last 18 games.
And MSAC is prepping to play a Compton program that has lost 10 of their last 11 games.
If the Mounties sweep Compton as expected, and PCC takes two of three from El Camino, it would set up an interesting final week.
Starting next Tuesday, the Lancers would take on Cerritos, who is tied for last with Compton, and the Mounties and Warriors will face off for a three-game set.
It is believed that in the right scenario, PCC, MSAC, El Camino and LBCC could all earn playoff spots.
In the most recent state rankings, PCC is seventh, Mt. SAC is ranked eighth, and El Camino and LBCC are 13th and 18th, respectively.
