Baseball:
When you’re in the hunt for a potential league title, nonleague games take a backseat in importance.
But they still serve an important purpose.
It allows coaches the flexibility to get players that don’t normally see as much time some game action.
It also gives a program the freedom to experiment with their lineup, and fix what needs fixing before entering the final stretch of the regular season.
In Wednesday’s nonleague contest at Temple City, Glendora had five pitchers go two innings or less in a 10-7 victory.
GHS out-hit the Rams, 12-4.
Dom Svagdis was credited with the win, going 1 2/3 innings and allowing a pair of unearned runs.
Svagdis didn’t allow a hit, walked two and fanned three Temple City batters.
Matt Moreno earned the save by going a perfect seventh inning in relief and striking out one.
Jakobe Henriquez walked, doubled and scored for the Rams.
Nathan Mena had an RBI base hit.
Ryan Sallinger walked twice, singled, scored two runs and had one RBI.
The Tartans would score runs off all four TCHS pitchers on Wednesday.
Nathan Mena surrendered a pair of runs on two hits and a walk over the last two innings.
Joseph Gilkeson singled twice, hit a grand slam, scored twice and finished with four RBIs.
Moreno had an RBI double.
Aaron Jacobsen doubled, scored and had two RBIs.
Ajay Rollice walked, doubled and scored two runs.
Brady Baeza walked, singled, drove in a run and scored twice.
Garrett Dykstra singled twice in the win.
Ethan Tapia walked, singed twice and scored.
Troy Estrada singled, scored and drove in a run.
Up next: GHS heads to Bonita on Thursday afternoon for the final of three with the first-place Bearcats.
