Baseball:
Bonita is one step closer to winning a Palomares League championship.
In a battle of first-place programs, the Bearcats picked up a 3-1 victory at Glendora.
And did so despite being out-hit, 6-2.
Bonita has one more game left with the Tartans, but they’ve already clinched the three-game Palomares League series after notching win No. 2 over GHS.
With five games to play, and as mentioned, the Bearcats and the Tartans meet up Thursday in La Verne, and then Bonita has a pair of two-game series with last-place Colony and fourth-place Alta Loma.
But back to Tuesday.
Bonita got three first-inning runs, and for all intents and purposes, Garrett Patterson did the rest.
Patterson went 6 2/3 innings and allowed just a seventh-inning run.
Patterson scattered five hits, walked three and fanned seven GHS batters.
Tristan Rambaud got the final out to earn the save.
Matt Moreno walked, singled and drove in the lone Tartans run.
Troy Estrada and Braydon Wooldridge had one walk and one single each for GHS.
Joseph Gilkeson and Michael Moses had one hit apiece in the loss.
Ajay Rollice scored Glendora’s run.
JJ Nolan got the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits in his five innings.
Nolan walked four and struck out five Bonita batters.
Evan Ellis went two perfect innings in relief and fanned one for GHS.
JT Fenton reached on an error and Bryan Bradshaw was hit-by-pitch to open Tuesday’s showdown.
Luke Mistone gave Bonita a 1-0 lead when he doubled home Fenton.
Seth Wrightstone singled to right, which allowed Bradshaw to score.
Mistone scored the third and final run in the first when he crossed the plate as Wrightstone attempted to steal second base.
