Ayala Uses Arm of Cerecedes & Bats of Badawi & McCain in 8-6 Victory at Eastlake in D-1 State Playoffs

The Palomares League champs are still standing.

Ayala got out to an early 4-0 lead and held on to defeat Eastlake, 8-6, in the first round of the CIF State Division 1 playoffs.

The Bulldogs made a 125-mile drive to Chula Vista and Thomas Cerecedes improved to 11-0.

Cerecedes went five strong, allowing one run on six hits.

He didn’t walk anyone and struck out four.

Eastlake would get four unearned runs off AJ Juarez, including a seventh-inning grand slam from Marcelo Mayer, but the Titans could not catch the Bulldogs.

Nico Libed doubled and drove in two runs.

Garrett Beckhelm was stuck with the loss.

He allowed three runs on two hits and three walks over his 2/3 of an inning.

Jacob Badawi went 3-for-5, including two doubles, a triple, two runs scored and a pair of RBIs.

Mateo Matthews walked, doubled, scored twice and had an RBI.

Troy McCain homered, drove in two and scored a pair of runs.

Luke Solis singled twice and had an RBI.

Marcus Galvan walked twice and scored.

Damien Delgadillo walked, singled and scored.

Up next: Ayala will host Bishop Amat (21-8) on Thursday at 4.

To their credit, the Lancers drove 246 miles and claimed a 4-2 victory at Buchanan in Clovis.
