Baseball:
It took the top-ranked team in CIF-SS Division 1 to end Ayala’s title quest.
JSerra scored six seventh-inning runs to pull away from the Bulldogs, 11-7, in Tuesday’s D-1 semifinal.
The Lions hit three home runs and 10 of their 12 hits were of the extra-base variety.
AJ Juarez got stuck with the loss after allowing four runs on six hits and a walk over his 1 2/3 innings.
Cody Schrier walked, doubled, homered and drove in two runs.
Gabe D’Arcy singled, doubled and scored twice.
Luke Jewett went 3-for-3, with a walk, double, two runs scored and two RBIs.
David Horn doubled twice, scored and drove in three runs.
Colin Blanchard walked, homered and drove in three runs.
Tristan Lamaison was credited with the win after going 1 1/3 innings and allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits.
Jacob Badawi went 3-for-4 with a double and he scored once.
Ty Borgogno singled twice, scored two runs and had an RBI.
Mateo Matthews walked, scored and had two RBIs.
Cole Koniarsky walked, singled twice and scored two runs.
Troy McCain went 1-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs.
Marcus Galvan singled, doubled and drove in a run.
Up next: Ayala will get their CIF State Division 1 playoff opponent over the weekend.
The state tournament will begin one week from today.
