Baseball:

A pretty remarkable 2021 season finally ended for the Monrovia baseball program.

And it took the No. 1 seed in Division 4 to do it.

Murrieta Mesa defeated the Wildcats, 6-2, in the quarterfinal round.

Jhayden Raineri remained unbeaten after going seven strong innings to pick up the win.

Raineri allowed two runs on four hits, walked three and struck out seven Wildcats’ batters.

Shane Petersen and Nate Thompson both doubled and scored one run apiece for the Rio Hondo League champs.

Matthew Delgado and Dominic Teneriello had one RBI apiece for Monrovia.

Coleman Mitchell suffered his first defeat this year, going five innings and allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits.

Mitchell didn’t walk anyone and struck out five.

Makana Olaso went 1-for-3, with three RBIs.

Carter Garate singled twice and scored a pair of runs.

Colby Moran went 2-for-3 and scored.

Raineri helped his own cause with a single, RBI and run scored.

Monrovia won 84-percent of their games in 2021, including an 11-1 run to a Rio Hondo League championship.
