Royal Edges Charter Oak, 3-2, in Friday’s CIF-SS Division 4 Quarterfinal; Chargers Out-Hit Highlanders, 12-8

The bats of Troy May and Luke Piazza proved to be just enough for Royal to edge Charter Oak, 3-2, in Friday’s quarterfinal round of the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs.

The Chargers actually out-hit the Highlanders, 12-8, but it’s Royal that’s moving on to the semifinals.

Chris Ceballos got the loss after allowing three runs on eight hits over his six innings of work.

He didn’t walk anyone and struck out three.

Evan Avitia provided a scoreless seventh inning of relief for the Chargers.

Troy May doubled, hit a solo shot and scored twice for the Highlanders.

Luke Piazza singled and drove in two runs.

Andrew Hall went 2-for-3 and scored once.

Riley Feigenbaum got the win after allowing two runs (one earned) on 11 hits over his six innings on the mound.

He didn’t walk anyone and struck out four.

Matt O’Brien got the save with a scoreless seventh.

Gabriel Rico singled twice and scored.

Aaron Osorio and Evan Avitia both went 2-for-4.

Anthony Vasquez doubled and scored and Zack Bauer singled twice and had an RBI.

Ethan Milleson, Diego Ortiz and Chris Ceballos had one hit apiece for COHS.

The season ended two games earlier than they had hoped, but this Charter Oak team has so much to be proud of.
