Chantz Powers Throws 4-Hit Shutout & Strikes Out 8; Monrovia Defeats Grace Brethren, 3-0, in 2nd Round of D-4 Playoffs

Monrovia opened the playoffs last Friday with a seven-run victory over Alhambra, as Coleman Mitchell shut out the Moors and struck out 10.

On Tuesday, Chantz Powers got the ball from skipper Brad Blackmore, and the Wildcats’ senior didn’t waste his opportunity to dominate.

Powers threw a four-hit shutout in Monrovia’s 3-0 victory over visiting Grace Brethren in the second round of the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs.

Powers didn’t walk anyone and struck out eight to earn his sixth win of the season.

Shane Petersen went 2-for-3 with a stolen base.

Luke Chiovare had an RBI base hit.

Sebastian Sanchez scored and had an RBI.

Powers and Jazk Zinn both scored on Tuesday.

Anthony Chiovare was credited with an RBI.

Up next: Monrovia will face Murrieta Mesa on Friday.

The Rams (25-6) defeated Woodcrest Christian, 15-3, on Tuesday.
