Baseball:
There was no doubt that Dan Henley’s players were going to send him off a winner on Friday afternoon.
With former coaches and players dating back to the 1980’s on hand to pay tribute to Henley’s more than two decades at the helm, the Tartans finished the 2021 season with a 5-2 victory over Alta Loma.
Next week, we will be publishing a story on Henley’s career, including a photo gallery, so for now, we’ll stick to what he wants to focus on….the game of baseball.
Jeff Isenhart went two scoreless innings to pick up the win.
Isenhart allowed one hit, walked a pair and fanned two ALHS batters.
Donovann Jackson contributed two scoreless innings of his own and got five of his six outs via strikeout.
Alta Loma got a pair of unearned runs off Trevor Ingersoll on one hit.
Ingersoll walked and struck out one Braves’ batter.
And Josh VerKuilen closed out career win No. 481 for the 58-year old Glendora coach.
David Gonzalez walked, singled, doubled and drove in a run for ALHS.
Ian Wolski walked twice, singled and scored, and Ian Blauser singled and scored for the Braves.
Dominic Gravina was stuck with the loss.
Gravina surrendered five runs (three earned) on seven hits over 3 2/3 innings.
He walked two and struck out a pair of GHS batters.
Dominic Paris went 2 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit.
Matt Gonzales had an RBI base hit in his final high school game.
Carson Collett went 2-for-3 and scored, and the Tartans’ catcher will be headed to APU to play baseball.
Jeff Isenhart delivered an RBI double.
Before heading over to do his part in the GHS basketball playoff win (54-51 over Oak Hills), Braydon Wooldridge singled, scored and had an RBI.
Austin White singled, scored and drove in a run.
Rodrigo Casasola walked and had an RBI.
Gavin Fonseca walked and scored, and JJ Nolan scored once in the win.
Johnnie Valdez and Justin Myint both singled in the win.
