Baseball:
With five games remaining in the season, Damien had just been caught atop the Baseline League standings by Chino Hills, while Los Osos and RCHS still had their eyes on the prize.
Since that day, the Spartans have gone 5-0, which included Friday’s 11-6 victory over Rancho Cucamonga.
Damien swept RCHS, and ended up winning the league crown by three games.
Alec Beck went four perfect innings of relief and struck out three RCHS batters to close out the victory.
Jayden Lopez homered, scored a pair of runs and drove in two.
Wilson Dunn walked, singled and scored two runs.
Jacob McCombs doubled, scored and had an RBI.
Jake Brown had an RBI and Joshua Farner scored once for the Cougars.
Damien got to Nicholas Cataldo for four runs on four hits, then Nicolas Sanchez surrendered four runs (two earned) on five hits, and Jacob Billings was touched up for three runs.
Sanchez didn’t walk anyone and struck out six.
Beck went 2-for-4 and scored twice.
Sebastian Arguelles went 3-for-4, with a triple, three RBIs and scored a pair of runs.
Robby Mansour singled, doubled twice, scored two runs and drove in three.
Joel Porter doubled and scored and JD Dunn singled and had two RBIs.
Tyler Daley walked and had an RBI and Matt Clark singled, scored and had an RBI.
Kaden Moeller walked twice doubled and scored three runs.
