Baseball:

It would have been so easy for the La Salle baseball program to tuck their tails and go home after being swept by the Del Rey League champions from Bishop Amat.

Amat claimed 9-3 & 10-4 victories on Monday and Wednesday, respectively.

And they took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on Thursday.

But La Salle fought their (butts) off, and Evan Nahra’s two-run double in the top of the seventh led the Lancers to a 5-4 road victory.

Adrian Verduzco got the loss after allowing two runs on two hits and one walk in the seventh inning.

Alejandro Morales went the first six innings for Amat, and surrendered three unearned runs on six hits.

Morales walked one and struck out seven.

Nahra finished 2-for-4, with three RBIs.

David Mysza doubled and scored.

Val Gomez walked and scored and Bradley Zantenson singled and scored a run in the win.

Doug Pyle walked, singled, doubled, had an RBI and scored twice.

Zantenson allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits over his four innings of work.

He didn’t walk anyone and struck out one.

Val Gomez got the win.

Gomez went three scoreless innings, allowing two hits, didn’t walk anyone and struck out two Amat batters.

Tyler White went 2-for-3, with an RBI and run scored.

Izaiah Ayala singled twice and drove in a run.

Daniel Briones singled, scored and had an RBI for Amat.

Jose Marquez singled twice in the loss.

Quotable:

La Salle coach, Mike Solar: “Bradley did a good job of settling down after the first inning and it really could’ve been a lot worse. He just gave us a chance, and against an elite team like Amat, we had a tough hill to climb. A couple of balls bounced our way and we were able to get some key hits. I’m amazed at how our kids have found ways to get things done despite all the obstacles we’ve faced.”
