Baseball:
What better or more exciting a way for Damien to clinch at least a share of the Baseline League title, than in a game that featured 26 combined runs, 26 hits and three errors?
The Spartans claimed a 15-11 victory over visiting Rancho Cucamonga on Monday, and with two games to play, Damien holds a two-game lead over second-place Chino Hills.
And coupled with the fact that Damien won two of three against the Huskies, they will get the No. 1 seed out of the Baseline League.
But back to Monday’s slugfest.
Jacob Billings was charged with eight runs (seven earned) on six hits over his 3 1/3 innings.
He walked four and struck out four.
Kaden Moeller singled, homered, scored twice and drove in five runs.
Matt Clark doubled, tripled, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs.
Alec Beck walked twice, singled two times, had an RBI and scored four runs.
Ivan Aguirre walked, singled, doubled and had two RBIs.
Tyler Daley went 2-for-3 and scored.
Joel Porter walk, singled and scored two runs.
Daniel Barrera went the first three innings for Damien, allowing two runs on two hits and six walks.
Barrera struck out four RCHS batters.
Wilson Dunn walked twice, singled twice, scored and drove in two runs.
Jake Brown had two singles and scored.
Michael Woodward walked, singled and scored a pair of runs.
Bradyn France walked twice, singled, scored twice and had an RBI.
Jacob McCombs went 2-for-3, with a walk, two singles, two RBIs and scored three times.
Joshua Farner walked, singled, doubled, scored and had two RBIs.
Aaron Whobrey collected three singles and an RBI.
Up next: Damien travels to RCHS on Wednesday for the second of three this week with the Cougars.
