Baseball:
It was a win-win Wednesday for the Ayala baseball program.
The Bulldogs clinched at least a share of the Palomares League championship after its 14-3 victory over Colony.
Ayala now has a three-game lead with three games to go.
They’ll officially wrap up an outright title when the Bulldogs travel to last-place Colony on Friday.
Thomas Cerecedes went three scoreless innings and allowed two base hits.
He didn’t walk anyone and struck out four to pick up the win.
AJ Juarez, Nico Masucci and Trent Merrill contributed one scoreless inning apiece and the Titans were able to push across three unearned runs against Bryan Yang in the fifth inning.
Connor Rangel singled, doubled and drove in all three Colony runs.
Jacob Pulido and Fernando Diaz both singled and scored one run.
Nathan Valdivia got the loss, surrendering five runs on five hits over his two innings.
He walked two and fanned a pair of Bulldogs’ batters.
Mateo Matthews went 3-for-4, with two doubles, four RBIs and he scored once.
Shortly after committing to the U of San Diego, Cole Koniarsky walked, singled twice, had an RBI and scored three runs.
Troy McCain walked, homered, scored twice and drove in three runs.
Ty Borgogno walked twice, singled and scored two runs.
Luke Solis walked, singled and scored three runs.
Ryan Moreno doubled and scored, and Damien Delgadillo singled and scored.
Marcus Galvan singled and drove in three runs.
If you’re counting, it’s Ayala’s 14th consecutive win.
