Coleman Mitchell Goes 7 Scoreless & Strikes Out 10 in Monrovia’s 1-0, RHL Victory Over La Canada in 8 Innings

Baseball:

Baseball can be both a beautiful and brutal game.

Case in point: La Canada’s Evan Umland went 7 2/3 innings and allowed one run on five hits and he still got the loss.

Umland walked two and struck out four, but Monrovia claimed a 1-0 victory in eight innings.

And how did the run score?

Matthew Delgado got hit by pitch with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Luke Chiovare singled and scored the game’s lone run.

Nathan Thompson walked twice, including once intentionally, singled and stole a base.

Coleman Mitcheell doubled and stole a base.

The win gives Monrovia a three-game lead with three remaining on their Rio Hondo League schedule.

Steven Escarcega got the win after going a scoreless top of the eighth and allowing a hit.

But Coleman Mitchell did the heavy lifting.

Mitchell went seven scoreless innings, scattering three hits, walking two and striking out 10 Spartans’ batters.

In a pair of one-run victories this year over La Canada, Mitchell has gone 14 innings, allowing one run and striking out 24 batters.

Timmy Park, Evan Umland, Riley Kozakar and Ryan Kiessling had one single apiece to account for the La Canada offense.
