Luke Mistone Throws Six Scoreless Innings & Strikes Out 12 in Bonita’s 6-0 Victory at GHS

Baseball:

What a week it was for the Bonita High pitching staff.

On Wednesday, Edrian Rangel blanked the Tartans and struck out 10 in a 1-0 victory.

Two days later, Luke Mistone, who picked up the save on Wednesday, struck out 12 and the Bearcats left GHS with a 6-0 victory.

Mistone surrendered just four hits and walked one.

Bonita secured the three-game season sweep of the Tartans, and, as important, the Bearcats now hold a two-game lead over GHS, Claremont and Alta Loma for second place in the Palomares League with six league games remaining.

Matt Gonzales, Braydon Wooldridge, Johnnie Valdez and AJ Salazar had one hit apiece to account for the Glendora offense.

GHS senior Jeff Isenhart deserved a better fate.

Isenhart allowed just one run on five hits over his 6 1/3 innings.

He walked one and struck out six.

The Bearcats were able to get to Braydon Wooldridge for five runs and five hits in the top of the seventh inning.

Luke Mistone singled twice, doubled and scored a run.

Logan Corthell singled, doubled and had two RBIs.

Jordan Sheridan doubled, scored and drove in two runs.

Tyler Holley walked, singled and scored.

JT Fenton had a two-run single.

Aiden Caron singled and scored for the Bearcats and Joey Hanke walked and scored a run.

Up next: GHS will host Long Beach Poly this morning (Saturday) at 11.

And then the Tartans host the No. 1 ranked team in Division 1, the Ayala Bulldogs, on Wednesday.

Quotable:

Bonita coach, Ryan Marcos: “Glendora can swing the bats well, but Luke Mistone did a great job keeping them off balances for six innings. All pitches were working for him throughout the entirety of the game. Luke’s just one of the hardest working athletes I’ve ever been around, which makes our jobs as coaches that much easier. He’s the first guy on/last guy off the field every day. He was brilliant against Glendora. The last few games our entire team has come together to get the job done. Getting the sweep is huge and we just need to keep the same mentality as we head into the final stretch here.

Bonita pitcher, Luke Mistone: “Both those wins were absolutely huge for us this week. Edrian went out there Wednesday and really set the tone for us with that outing. I went out there today just trying to do the same and trust my stuff. I felt like I had good command of the fastball and the slider to both sides of the plate and was fortunate enough to get out of some tough spots. The score today doesn’t really show how close of a game today was, and looking back the first two were both one-run games. All of these games really could have gone either way and that’s a really talented team over there. Gotta give props to Kozma and the coaching staff again for the game plan.”
