Cerritos Valley Christian snapped Maranatha’s 10-game win streak on Tuesday

The Defenders pulled to within one-game back of the first-place Minutemen in the Olympic League standings after the 6-2 victory at Brookside Park.

Maranatha, however, accepted the gut punch and answered back on Thursday.

And they didn’t waste any time.

MHS got two first-inning runs and Daniel Ruiz did the rest in a 5-1 victory at Valley Christian.

Ruiz went the distance, allowing the one run on two hits.

He walked two and struck out five Valley Christian batters.

Ben Carter’s solo shot in the bottom of the sixth was the Defenders offense on Thursday.

Carson Slager gave up two first-inning runs on two hits and a walk.

The Minutemen hit one home run apiece off of Slager and Jared McDaniel.

Garrett McGuigan hit a two-run shot and Ryan Mittelman singled and hit a solo home run.

Nick Cook had an RBI base hit and Will Allen walked and scored.

Mikey Ebner walked and scored.

Dylan Zdunek singled, doubled, scored and had an RBI, and Cam Andrews doubled in the win.

Adrian Lopez walked and singled.

Up next: Maranatha will host Summit on Saturday at 2.
