Baseball:
Everything looked great for Glendora on Monday afternoon.
The Tartans struck for five runs in the bottom of the first inning against their visitors from La Mirada.
But Benjamin Kim’s bat and Aaron Rubio’s arm would lead the Matadores to a 13-5 victory at GHS.
Braydon Wooldridge was stuck with the loss.
Wooldridge allowed six runs on five hits over his 1 1/3 innings.
Benjamin Kim had a monster game for the Matadores.
Kim walked, hit a grand slam, sac fly, scored twice and drove in six runs.
Noah Rodriguez went 3-for-4, and scored two runs.
Josh Perez singled twice, scored and had an RBI.
Andrew Pyle walked, singled twice, scored a pair of runs and had an RBI.
Alejandro Diaz walked, singled, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs.
Jesus Peraza went 2-for-4, with two RBIs and scored once.
Glendora got five first-inning runs off of Jeremiah Sotelo on six hits and a walk.
Aaron Rubio came on and went 5 2/3 innings without allowing a run and giving up just one hit.
Rubio walked one and struck out four Tartans’ batters.
Kim, who hit the grand slam in the sixth inning, closed out the victory with a scoreless seventh on the mound for La Mirada.
Matt Gonzales singled and scored.
Johnnie Valdez and Michael Moses singled, scored and drove in one run apiece.
Shane Mion walked and had an RBI single and Jeff Isenhart walked and scored.
Braydon Wooldridge singled and scored and Carson Collett drove in a run on a sac fly.
Up next: GHS opens a pair of Palomares League games with Colony.
The Tartans will travel on Wednesday and then host the Titans on Friday.
First pitch is set for 3:30 for both games.
