Baseball:
After getting swept by Rancho Cucamonga last week, Los Osos welcomed Upland to their field for the first of a three-game Baseline League series with the Highlanders.
And don’t let UHS’ winless record in league fool you.
They had chances to beat Damien twice last week.
And Upland challenged to the end.
But Los Osos got outstanding pitching from Reagan Samples and Wyatt Mohler in a 2-1 victory.
Samples went five strong, and he was charged with one run on five hits.
Samples issued one walk and registered five strikeouts.
Of his 74 pitches, 51 were strikes.
Mohler came in and retired the side in both the sixth and seventh innings to earn the save.
Dom Nava went 2-for-3 with a double and the lone RBI.
Nick Ramos, Dylan Trejo and Nick Serna singled for UHS.
Carson Kinnick walked and singled.
Julian Zambrano pinch-ran and scored for the Highlanders.
Issac Carlo was saddled with the loss after going five innings and allowing two runs on four hits.
Carlos didn’t issue a walk and fanned three LOHS batters.
Max Biddle provided a scoreless and hitless inning in relief, and he struck out one.
Josh Chairez had a one-out RBI double in the bottom of the third inning to give LOHS a 1-0 lead.
Two batters later, Mohler’s two-out RBI double plated Chairez and it extended the Grizzlies advantage to 2-0.
Andrew Cromwell singled and scored and Ryan Kelly singled.
