Baseball:

It seems like everything is going right for the Ayala baseball program.

The Bulldogs are ranked No. 1 in the most recent CIF-SS Division 1 poll and after Friday’s 6-3 victory over Bonita, Ayala finds itself on a seven-game win streak, and that includes a 5-0 mark in Palomares League play.

It also seems like we’re always talking about Jacob Badawi, but the two-sport stud earns every inch of ink he’s given.

On Friday, Badawi doubled, tripled, homered, scored two runs and drove in a pair.

Ayala got to Bonita ace, Luke Mistone, for six runs (five earned) on 10 hits.

Mistone walked two and struck out six Bulldogs’ batters.

The No’s 1-4 (Badawi, Ty Borgogno, Cole Koniarsky & Mateo Matthews) in the Ayala lineup combined for nine hits, five runs and six RBIs.

Borgogno walked, singled twice, scored and had an RBI.

Matthews walked, singled, homered for the second consecutive game, scored and drove in a run.

Koniarsky went 2-for-4, with a run and RBI.

Andreas Pasillas continued his excellence on the mound, going six innings and allowing one run on four hits to earn the win.

Pasillas walked three and struck out five.

Devon Diaz walked, singled and scored twice for the Bearcats.

Mistone singled and scored and Ryan Kozma drove in a run on a sac fly.

Logan Corthell walked and singled and Edrian Rangel singled and doubled.

So far, Ayala has defeated Alta Loma, Claremont, Glendora, Colony and Bonita by a combined margin of 48-11 in Palomares League competition.

Quotable:

Ayala coach, Chris Vogt: “This was a big win for us. Bonita is a very good team and to beat them is always a big deal. We are playing some very good baseball right now. The contributions are coming from a lot of different places each game and it has been fun to watch.”

Bonita coach, Ryan Marcos: “Bonita vs. Ayala matchups are always fun and today was no different. Our guys battled all seven innings and the outcome wasn’t what we expected, but we tip our hats to a solid squad and look forward to seeing them again. Proud of our effort and energy today from the bench to the field.”
