He allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits.

Loyola got three more off Isaiah Ramirez.

Ramirez surrendered three hits and walked three in his two innings of work.

Lane Johnson went 2-for-4 in the leadoff spot and scored.

Luca DiPaolo walked and scored twice.

Ethan Haggarty walked twice, singled, scored and drove in two runs.

Case singled and scored.

Tino Valdez (pictured above) singled and had two RBIs.

And Alex Orman drove in a run on a sac fly.

Up next: The Cubs will travel to St. Paul tomorrow (Wednesday).

First pitch is set for 11 a.m.

Quotable:

Loyola coach, Sean Buller: “It was great for the team to get back on the winning side of things and for David to set the tone for the game on the mound. He went after their hitters and was able to control the strike zone. I think today was exactly what the team needed going forward for the next two tournament games and to prepare for league next week.”
