Trailing 7-4 in the Sixth, PHS Rallies for 8-7, Walk-Off Victory Over Walnut; Bulldogs Claim First Win of 2021 in Dramatic Style

If Pasadena is to go on and have a successful 2021 baseball season, they can look back to Saturday, April 3, for where the turn occurred.

The Bulldogs entered the game 0-3 and were trailing Walnut, 7-4, in the bottom of the sixth inning.

But to their credit, PHS rallied for three in the sixth and one more in the seventh to earn an 8-7 victory.

Walnut’s Cesar Chavez was saddled with the loss.

Chavez surrendered four runs (one earned) on two hits.

He walked five and didn’t strike anyone out in his 1 1/3 innings of work on Saturday.

Max Newhart went 3-for-3, with three RBIs.

Jackson Stuart walked, singled and scored.

Evan Coad walked, singled twice, scored three runs and had an RBI.

Michael Gonzalez walked, singled, scored a pair of runs and drove in one.

Justin Brooks went 2-for-3, with an RBI.

Ben Griffith went the first five innings for PHS, allowing seven runs (four earned) on six hits.

He walked six and struck out two.

Jesus Zuniga earned the win, after two scoreless innings of relief.

Zuniga allowed just a single.

Panama Greenwood singled twice, doubled and drove in a run.

Kyle Calzadiaz walked, doubled and scored

Matthew Leyva and Robert McCormick had RBI base hits in the loss.
