Softball:
On top of the many reasons that the Coronavirus broke the hearts of so many spring sport athletes, especially seniors, was the fact that some programs were off to a quick start and had the potential for a great season.
And that was the case for Rio Hondo Prep and its four-year starting pitcher, Clarisse Rosales.
Rosales was 2-1 on the mound with a 2.80 and a better than 3-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
More importantly, she and her teammates were 5-1 overall and were ranked No. 3 in the final CIF-SS Division 6 poll, behind St. Genevieve and Santa Ynez, respectively.
RHP was also 1-0 in league in a year that only one of the six other Prep League programs (Chadwick) had a better than .500 record.
But the world shut down, which included athletics at every level.
What COVID-19 couldn’t impact, though, was the fact that Rosales put together four solid years at RHP and it helped earn her a spot to play for La Sierra University in Riverside when the 2021 season comes around.
Rosales also played basketball during her freshman season, as well as four years of volleyball.
We asked Rosales to touch on the following three questions:
1- Why was La Sierra a good fit?
2- What are you most excited about?
3- How did your time at Rio Hondo Prep help prepare you for this moment?
Said Clarisse Rosales:
2) I am most excited about getting to play at the collegiate level, while getting a great education and making lifelong friends. That has been my dream ever since I can remember.
3) RHP has prepared me for this moment by teaching me that God has a plan for everyone. Even though we don’t know what the plan is, we must trust in the lord. RHP has also taught me teamwork by giving me the opportunity to play all the sports available. Coach Joe Parker always pushed me to be the best and to set goals.”
